Utah Soldier Accused Of Punching Woman After Traffic Stop

A Utah Highway Patrol rider is under investigation after a video showed him punching a woman several times during a traffic stop, a spokesman for the Utah Department of Public Safety said.

dashboard camera captured images of Sgt Andrew Davenport punching Darla Wright 53 years in August.

Davenport is on paid administrative leave, said Brian Hyeres, spokesman for the Utah Department of Public Safety.

Wright was speeding in Ogden, when police tried to stop, officials said Saturday. According to an incident report, the driver evaded police and there was a chase. Authorities arrested the woman to catch his car between two vehicles.

"The suspect was trying to escape, he was accelerating the floor the accelerator and the engine in an attempt to push our cars in the road," Davenport wrote in an incident report.

Davenport said Wright did not roll down the window and grabbed the steering wheel.

Video, Davenport is seen as a violation of the driver's side window to get in the car and repeatedly punching a woman.

"She refused to comply with orders to give us hands, Davenport wrote." Because of my closeness to the suspect and my experience with the defeat of Taser and closer at a distance, I provide three strikes near beach his head to try to win the respect of our orders. I did it to distract and stun her and stop trying to short and hit our cars or perhaps crush us. The strikes appeared and we were able to grasp his hands. "

Hyères said investigations are "multiple layers of feedback." It is unclear when the investigation can be completed.

"Sgt. Survey Davenport is a personal matter and I am limited on what I can tell," said Hyères. "There have been several reviews and investigations, and now we have a case pending staff."

Hyères confirmed to CNN that Davenport is a cousin to the Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner D. Lance Davenport, but police said that the relationship will not affect the case.

Hyer said the commissioner told him that believes in doing the right thing.

"Commissioner expects all its employees responsible for his actions," said Hyères. "There is a correlation between the Commissioner and Sergeant Davenport. Davenport, but nothing else. It has no bearing on this case. "

CNN tried to reach Sgt. Davenport, but the Department of Public Safety does not let you talk, "said Hyer.

The driver finally taken into custody on charges of drunk driving, escaped the police, reckless driving, resisting arrest and assault police. Companies to achieve his have not been successful.
