Schiavone Won The Longest Women's Match

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) - The French Open champion Francesca Schiavone woman needs a Grand Slam-record 4 hours, 44 minutes to beat Svetlana Kuznetsova and advance to the quarterfinals of the Australia Open for the first time in 11 attempts .

The Italian won 6-4, 1-6, 16-14 Sunday, including a third set of three hours where she saved six match points.

The longest previous match in Grand Slam women's tournament was the Park in Melbourne last year, when Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova beat Regina Kulikova 7-6 (5), 6-7 (10), 6-3 and the game of life 4 hours, 19 minutes.
