A CNN crew work to cover clashes between security forces and demonstrators in Cairo felt the wrath of the police in Egypt on Friday.
CNN senior international correspondent Ben Wedeman said he and photographer Mary Rogers were the bridge and behind a column of protesters and the police were not inconsistent.
plainclothes police arrived, surrounded by the CNN team and wanted to "leave us," said Wedeman.
"Great battle began," he said.
The police grabbed the camera to Rogers, the camera's viewfinder is cracked and removed.
Wedeman said police threatened to beat them.
Wedeman said he called police to give back the camera to show that Egypt believes in the freedom of the press. He said that security forces have refused to do so.
Wedeman discussed the incident on Friday, CNN American Morning "and CNN International offers financial detected between the dramatic video footage of police in riot gear, tear gas clouds and masses of the people on the street.
Security forces on Friday was driving the opposite of their response to the first day of protests in Egypt on Tuesday, when officers were relatively moderate, Wedeman said.
In another incident, four French journalists were arrested in Cairo, "said Bernard Valero, spokesman for the French Foreign Ministry, but details of the arrest were not immediately available.
