Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was concerned for their safety long before she was seriously injured in a shooting that killed six people in Arizona, her husband said in an interview.
"We have discussed many times," Mark Kelly told CNN affiliate KVOA-TV Tucson. "He felt that there was a possibility, more or less what had happened. ... There have been threats against him and other members of Congress."

Kelly said the affiliate that he and his wife were concerned about the heated debates and political divisions, but his passion for public service was a priority in spite of fear.
"She did what she loved, she was representing the people of southern Arizona," said Kelly. "She felt it was very important for them to be able to walk to her and say what they think. "
Kelly said that the legislature will continue its public service "stronger than ever", as he pretty well. He predicted returns to the stage of recovery.

Demonstration of support was great, Kelly said, including an elementary school student who sent her $ 2.85 in spending money for Gifford with a card.
"I sealed up, and we are going to give her back," Kelly said. "It 's almost made me cry right there in the room, only to see the boy put his money in his lunch bag."
