The Death Toll In Floods In Brazil Exceeds 800

devastating floods in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro has killed more than 800 people, according to the new government.

State authorities said Sunday that 809 people have died after floods and massive landslides destroyed homes and destroyed entire neighborhoods in the foothills of the cities.

Nova Friburgo city had the majority, at least 391 victims, Rio de Janeiro state government said.

Floods caused by days of torrential rain has left thousands homeless in the state, according to the government account.

Other states in the South American country has also seen heavy rains. Earlier this month, authorities in the neighboring state of Sao Paulo said the floods killed 24 people.
