Correctional officer in Washington prison is found dead

female correctional officer in Washington State Prison inmate was strangled, and said officials had planned to escape is under investigation, officials said Sunday.

Biendl Jayme, 34, was found late Saturday after workers at the Monroe Correctional Complex realized his keys and radio were missing, according to a Department of Corrections of the State of Washington. The prison staff immediately went to where she worked and found her unresponsive, said.

Civil emergency declared Biendl died at the scene shortly before 11:00 PT, the department said.

She had been strangled, according to Chad Lewis, a department spokesman.

Also on Saturday night, an inmate was reported missing a routine for calculating the department said. It was subsequently found to be a chapel in the lobby and told the officials that he planned to escape, but changed his mind.

The detainee, who was identified as Byron Lewis Scherf, has since led to an isolation unit. The entire complex was put out on Sunday the authorities investigating the incident, the statement said.
