A wave of bombings killed 40 people and wounded dozens on Thursday in various districts of Baghdad, said Interior Ministry.
At least 37 people were killed and 78 others injured when a parked car bomb exploded near a funeral tent in the mainly Shiite neighborhood of Shula in northwest Baghdad.
A bomb exploded near a police patrol in southern Baghdad, killing one civilian and wounding seven people including three policemen.
In another attack south of Baghdad, a bomb exploded near a convoy of government. He missed the convoy, but killing a civilian and wounded three others.
In central Baghdad, a bomb exploded on a busy road, killing one civilian and wounded four others.
The explosions came after Wednesday night, killing three employees of the government by men armed with pistols equipped with silencers in three districts of Baghdad.
Two of the three government employees worked at the Iraqi Foreign Ministry and the third employee has worked in the Department of Housing and Reconstruction.
